Government In My Life

Has government affected my life?  60 years later, I tabulate how government has influenced my life.  I encourage each of my readers to give their testimony in retrospect.  Just give us a brief in the comments below, for all to read.

Negative Effects:

  • I was a 9 year old child living in Morocco.  The police was unable or not willing to investigate and prosecute those who killed my father in a ‘road side robbery’, and failed to stop the so many similar previous occurrences.
  • I already was a working young adult (19) in France with rent to pay, a loan, and a live in fiancee.  I was asked to give (for free) one year of my life for the military service.  I refused risking prison, but somehow managed to get away from it.
  • I was in my mid 20’s in France when government turned Socialist.  I had to give 40% of my pay to the government.  I couldn’t take my own money as I wanted to travel during vacations (they had an official log book recording the amounts taken out of the country, and there was low a limit).
  • I was living in Maryland at the time. Was a hard working owner of 2 stores. A police officer gave me a find for passing in a dangerous area. It was a lie. Went to court and got the find and court fees lifted. Thanks to the Judge, no thanks to the officer.
  • I worked and lived in France for a year and a half in the late 90’s. Very bad experience. One summer month, I worked over 270 hours, and my employer did not pay me the extra hours. I filled a complaint to be told that working over time for pay was illegal (monthly allowed hours 145).  I later also found out that in France 2nd jobs are against the law too.
  • Was basically forced to sell my sport bike, when Orange county Florida finds for motorcycles tripled the same for cars. Police was hounding sport bikes regardless of law abiding.
  • 2008 was a year infamy for all of us.  Government paid $700 Billions to failed banks, and let people suffer from losses.  Luckily, I was able to refinance, unlike 50 Million who lost their homes and savings.
  • In 2011, I was laid off from my 7 year position as an instructor (along with over 50 others of my colleagues), because the Federal Gov. had instituted 2 new laws impairing operations of private technical schools.
  • In 2014, My thriving online business had to shut down due to gangster practices of the Google / Amazon alliance.  Gov. should have applied Anti-Trust laws against those two giant gangster companies, and stop them from becoming Monopolies. Too late now they’ve destroyed plenty of small businesses.

Positive Effects:

  • I was a 26 years young adult, when the US government granted me a Green Card in 6 months. An became a US Citizen 5 years later.
  • I was living in Maryland at the time. Was a hard working owner of 2 stores. A police officer gave me a find for passing in a dangerous area. It was a lie. Went to court and got the find and court fees lifted. Thanks to the Judge, no thanks to the officer.
  • Early retirement is good.  Even though I don’t agree with the principle and it’s negative effect on free market, paying Social Security and Medicare got me covered for my older years.
